Who would have guessed we'd hear Mitt Romney's name tonight?
As expected, Obama has called for comprehensive immigration reform. He essentially stuck to the same principles — path to citizenship, more border security, pay back taxes — that he announced during a speech in January.
Obama says he wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $9 per hour. Minimum wage in #MO is now $7.35, #IL $8.25 #SOTU
Raising the minimum wage is a standard part of a Democratic president's agenda. It would be surprising actually to hear a Democratic president's SOTU speech without it. It certainly wouldn't make the Democratic base that belongs to organized labor happy to have a Democratic president ignore it.
Obama is proposing to raise the federal minimum wage to $9.00 an hour. At the moment that's at $7.25 an hour. Not only should be $9 an hour, said Obama, but it should be tied to inflation, an idea "that Gov. Romney and I actually agreed on last year."
@richard. The president talked about drones in the war part of the speech without mentioning them by name.
He didn't mention the word drones but referenced a "framework for targeting", which ostensibly referred to drone policy.
Obama touching on the situation with North Korea now - what do you think the US should do, or not do? #SOTU #STL
Edit: While the prepared remarks included a reference, the speech thusfar has not included such a reference.
@PG. I doubt if there will be the kind of transparency on the targeting of American citizens that civil libertarians would like to see.
Chatters, we're getting slammed with a bunch of your comments at once so that's why not every comment is making it in. We're working to keep the conversation making sense with the speech you're hearing.
